Chanel's promise of long wear perfection was the main selling point for me, and the main reason for eye watering low bank balance. For £36.00, Perfection Lumiere costs as much as 15 McDonald Happy Meals or a pair of Topshop skinny jeans, so I expected nothing less than the flawless skin of Alexa Chung.
I was persuaded to shell out another £31.00 for Chanel's complexion enhancing comfort base, Le Blanc De Chanel (It didn't take much persuasion to be honest) As Chanel's base is predominantly contains silicone it creates a perfect canvas, for a silicone based Chanel foundation, such as Perfection Lumiere, also it makes me uneasy to have a primer and foundation from differing brands. Just a fun fact for you there.
Chanel's packaging is Luxurious and looks beautiful on your dressing table, I put mine in pride of place. One downside to the design however, is its weight and size. If you travel a lot or are even going on holiday, the glass jar is impracticable and takes up so much room, but I am impressed that Chanel fixed the problem of the splitting bottle tops. It was a major problem with Pro Lumiere, before they discontinued it.
I was matched to 20 Beige ( A light and neutral shade) however the fluid tends to oxidase within a few minuets of application, to a slightly yellower tone. If yellower is even a word, probably not. As this foundation oxides it means I have to carry on down my neck and to any other parts of exposed skin to avoid embarrassment, which didn't bother me so much as I do this anyway with my Vichy Dermablend, I have been using recently. Unlike Vichy Dermablend, Perfection Lumiere dries fast, even as your buffing in the product, so I would advise you to split your face into sections to avoid an odd looking complexion.
When you first apply the foundation to your skin, it feels comforting and to quote make up legend, Lisa Eldridge 'cocooning' The texture of this foundation once it has set, is smooth and soft and gives a demi-matte finish to the skin. Its not at all sheer meaning your is foundation detectable, if you are looking for a second skin finish but suffer from oily skin Chanel's Perfection Lumiere Velvet may be what your looking for. The coverage is amazing, I like to apply it with a foundation brush all over, it covers redness from old acne scars and evens out my skin tone in one just layer but I do tend to go in for another layer with a sponge in the center of my face for a more flawless complexion and finish with some loose powder on my T-Zone for extra protection (better to be safe than oily) Chanel doesn't lie when describing the foundation as 'long wearing'. The longest I have worn this foundation so far is 12 hours, give or take, just a little under Chanel's promise of 15 hour wear. The foundation didn't budge and unlike other foundations and its appearance only improved as time went on. I didn't even need to apply an extra layer of powder throughout the day!
